Health and care organisations across Gloucestershire are embracing T-Levels as an exciting opportunity to nurture future talent, with placements steadily growing in both clinical and non-clinical roles.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire County Council, Gloucestershire Care Providers Association, and Primary Care are among the key organisations expanding their involvement in this initiative.

T-Levels are aimed at 16–19-year-old students who have completed their GCSEs and are looking for a high-quality, technical alternative to A-Levels, apprenticeships, or other vocational qualifications.

They provide students with a mix of classroom learning and substantial industry placements, enabling them to develop the skills needed to excel in a professional environment.

Mandy Tuckey, Apprenticeship and widening participation programme lead, at One Gloucestershire said: “T-Levels are a game-changer for both students and employers.

By engaging with these placements, we’re not only supporting students to develop critical skills but also strengthening our future workforce.

The breadth of opportunities, from clinical roles to finance and administration, shows that the health and care sector offers something for everyone.

Gloucestershire’s health and care system is embracing the chance to support workforce development, introduce students to rewarding careers, and create a pipeline of skilled professionals.

In addition to placements in clinical settings, such as nursing and therapy roles, organisations are also offering non-clinical placements in areas such as finance, business administration, and digital services.”

Expanding Placement Opportunities

  • Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust and Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are leading the way by opening their doors to more T-Level students, helping them gain hands-on experience in clinical roles and essential support services.
  • Social care providers are introducing students to the vital work done in communities, supporting Gloucestershire’s most vulnerable residents.
  • Gloucestershire County Council is expanding placements in non-clinical areas such as business administration, allowing students to develop critical workplace skills in public sector management.
  • NHS Gloucestershire- Integrated Care Board, is preparing to welcome students into roles from Spring 2025, offering opportunities in business administration and digital. These roles will provide insight into how strategy and planning contribute to driving healthcare systems forward.

Charlie Presley ‘We Want You’ Careers Engagement & Outreach Lead at One Gloucestershire said: “These placements not only give students invaluable experience but also provide health and care organisations with the chance to inspire the next generation of professionals.

By showcasing the variety of career pathways within the sector, organisations aim to address future workforce challenges and attract diverse talent.

The success of T-Levels in Gloucestershire’s health and care system is thanks to the collaborative efforts of educational institutions, the Integrated Care System (ICS), and local employers. Working together ensures that the placements meet students’ needs while also addressing skills gaps within the sector.”
